Worship, study during Annual Mennonite Bible Study Series

Focus in 2017 will be the Gospel of Matthew

Dr. Malinda Elizabeth Berry will be the speaker for the 32nd Annual Mennonite Bible Study Series in Mountain Lake running from Friday, February 24 through Monday, February 27. This series is sponsored each year by Bethel Mennonite and First Mennonite Churchs in Mountain Lake with the intent of bringing Anabaptist scholars of theology and Biblical studies to the local scene.

The series will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church, located at 301 9th Street North, from Friday evening through Monday morning. Evening sessions begin at 7 p.m., while morning sessions run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., except for Sunday morning worship at 10:30 a.m. Morning sessions include a coffee break and evening sessions will be followed by light refreshments and the opportunity for for conversation.

Dr. Berry is professor of theology and ethics at Anabaptist Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana. Berry’s teaching and research focus on developing Mennonite peace theology, integrating the visual arts into Bible study, and using practices like nonviolent communication and circle processes to enhance discipleship.

In this special Mountain Lake series, Berrey will lead six sessions incorporating worship, using liturgy (texts and music) from the Anabaptist Prayer Book (Take Our Moments and Our Days), and confessional Bible study on the Gospel of Matthew.

Berry, her husband, John and three-year-old son, Jeremiah, are part of Fellowship of Hope Mennonite Church, close to their home in Elkhart.
