MLPL’s Summer Reading Program closes with last Make/Take Craft projects; CLIMB Theatre presentation of ‘The Tortoise and the Hare’

The summer reading program – Read for the Win! – at Mountain Lake Public Library (MLPL) closed with featured finale fanfare today (Tuesday, July 19).

Tie-dye shirts and painted suncatchers were highlighted as the season’s last Make & Take Craft projects, and Climb Theatre presented the production, The Tortoise and the Hare for the closing program, a mini-play that supports literacy and reading readiness. In between, snacks were enjoyed, games were played and prizes were awarded.

The summer reading program activities were funded by Mountain Lake Public Library and Friends of the Mountain Lake Public Library.

Climb Theatre appeared through funding courtesy of money dedicated to Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

For 40 years, CLIMB Theatre of Inver Grove Heights has been a leader in innovative theatre programs that propel audiences toward positive action. CLIMB is the winner of the Sara Spencer Award for Excellence in Theatre for Young Audiences and the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits’ Anti-Racism Initiative Award.

CLIMB Theatre’s extensive reach touches 150,000+ audience members annually, inspiring millions of children and adults to make the world a better place.

In order to inspire that change, CLIMB’s theatre artists write, produce, and perform plays and classes on topics like bullying prevention, self control, respect, friendship, job skills, and more.

OF COURSE, “SPEEDY” easily takes a big early lead in the race, but, instead of completing the race by crossing the finish line, she instead decides that she has enough time to take a little nap – right in the middle of the audience.

WHILE “SPEEDY” SLEEPS, “Sal” keeps plodding along – and is the first to cross the finish line, much to the chagrin of “Speedy,” who is rudely awakened. In the end, the pair makes the decision to combine each of their own individual positive aspects to work together toward success.
