The Lake Commission for the City of Mountain Lake – and for Mountain Lake itself – learned at the group’s Monday, July 11 meeting that the sediment pond for Mountain Lake Golf Course is moving forward.

Dave Bucklin, member of the Lake Commission, reported that the Southwest Prairie Technical Service Area had surveyed the golf course, and is now engineering and designing the pond. Following the completion of those steps, they will compile a cost estimate and develop plans so that bids for the project can be sought.

Jay Schied leaves as Lake Commission Member

Jay Schied has submitted his resignation as a member of the Lake Commission, effective July 4, 2016.

In June, Mike James came on board as an advisory member, and now will be tapped to possibly become a member of the Lake Commission.

In other business

+ Learned that during lake weed harvesting from May 11 to July 1, 143 loads were harvested – with 1,430 cubic feet of biomass removed.

+ Learned there will be  a work day tomorrow (Wednesday, July 13) to place the weed barrier along the curves by the willows. Bucklin has flagged the area, and the city crew will assist with the project.

+ Heard a plan from Lake Commission Member Jason Kruser for adding a fire pit and three swinging benches to the lake’s beach area. Mountain Lake City Clerk/Administrator Wendy Meyer stated that she will contact the Mountain Lake Public School agriculture class to see if students would be willing to build the benches. The beach area also needs weed removal and more sand dumped on the edge.

+ Learned from Meyer that the job opening deadline for a part-time (20 hours a week) Parks and Trail employee has closed, and that an individual will be selected.

+ Heard a request from Meyer for input from the Lake Commission on next year’s budget. Funds need to be requested for special projects or for events sponsored by the commission. Jim Peterson, Lake Commission Chair, challenged members to brainstorm ideas to be presented at the group’s next meeting.

+ Approved the treasurer’s report.
