Milwaukee the summer destination for Region VI FFAers

Seven Mountain Lake Area FFA Chapter members take the tour

According to Katherine Hofmann, a Mountain Lake Area FFA Chapter Officer for 2016-2017, members from Region VI FFA Chapters left on a summer ag tour to Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 31. Chapters participating in the ag tour were Mountain Lake, Sleepy Eye, Springfield and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (RTR). Seven Mountain Lake Area members were on the tour and included Bailey Leaman, Carly Fast, Taylor Kass, Katherine Hofmann, Alex Sunderman, Jack Wendt and Madison Dahna.

On the trip, the students took a Milwaukee Boat tour, visited a Case IH Plant, checked out the Frank Lloyd-Wright-built Wingspread House, experienced a cheese tour, inspected the Harley Davidson Museum. enjoyed an ABS Global Tour and a KP Fresh tour.

On the visits, the FFAers saw how Case tractors are built, and, had the opportunity to meet two National FFA Officers were were also set to tour the manufacturing plant. At the Wingspread House, the group explored and learned about the building’s artistry and architecture, as well as as listened to stories of the children who were raised in the home. At one of the limited in-city cheese factories, the tourists saw how cheese is made, while at KP Fresh, they discovered benefit to the environment through their fish and vegetable farming aquaponics operations.

To top off the trip, the Region VI Chapter members stopped at Wind Point Lighthouse to catch a broad view of Lake Michigan. Wind Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse located at the north end of Racine Harbor.

The FFA members returned late Thursday, June 2 with stories to share with their families about the new places they had seen and the various people they had met.
