First-round shut-out for MLA Girls Softball

Host Nicollet Thursday; with double elimination will to Caswell on Saturday

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine Girls Softball team, seeded #4 in Section 2A, shut-out Granada/Huntley/East Chain-Martin Luther in a first-round game at home, 10-0 in five innings.

The Wolverines advance into double elimination play and will host #5-seed Nicollet at home on Thursday, May 26. Nicollet downed #13 Minnesota Valley Lutheran-New Ulm, 4-0.

In other first-round games:

+ #8 St. Clair downed #9 Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 13-3 in five innings. St. Clair will next face the Section #2A #1-seed, undefeated New Ulm Cathedral, who had a first-round bye, on the Greyhounds’ diamond on Thursday.

+ #3 Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s was the 10-0 winner in five innings over #14 Comfrey/Cedar Mountain. They will host #6 Sleepy Eye Public, the victor over #11 Madelia/Truman, 9-1.

+ Springfield, the #7-seed, defeated #10 Cleveland 10-2, and will move on to face the #2-seed in Section 2A, Mankato Loyola, who received a first-round bye.

No matter the outcome of Thursday’s game, MLA will be moving on to play at Caswell Park in North Mankato this Saturday, May 28.
