Vocalists, instrumentalists successfully compete in Solo/Ensemble Contest
A large contingent of musicians – both vocalists and instrumentalists – from Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS), competed Saturday, May 7 at the Solo/Ensemble Contest held at Jackson County Central Public High School.
Andrea Brinkman is the school’s Director of Choirs, and Kurt Jahnke is the Director of Bands.

Vocalists
+ Ruben Fentanez – solo – superior rating (highest rating given).
+ Ryan McCue – solo – superior rating.
+ Carmen Syverson – solo – superior rating.
+ Sam Grev – solo – superior rating.
+ Lily Kauffman – solo – superior rating.
+ Jareya Harder and David Hall – duet – superior rating.
+ Jareya Harder and Lily Kauffman – duet – superior rating.
Instrumentalists
+ Brook Sunderman – flute solo – superior rating (perfect score of 40).
+ Sam Hirsch – alto saxophone solo – superior rating (perfect score of 40). Sam was also awarded a Best in Site performance, which mean that his solo was the best presentation that the judge in that particular room heard during the course of the day.
+ Additional participants in the 14 instrumental events performing (12 of which earned superior ratings) – Ryan Blomgren, Lily Kauffman, Tony Orea-Morales, Braden Rempel, Ryan McCue, Andrew Fast, Amy Bartsch, Dawn Geertsema, Carly Paulson, Emily Jahnke, Kayla Vonk, Liana Blomgren, Jareya Harder, Sam Grev, Carmen Syverson and Ethan Karschnik.
