In the shadows – for now

MLHS students check out career choices

job shadowingMountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) seniors have been job shadowing this fall as part of the courses of English teachers Brenda Feil (Senior Writing) and Kim Syverson (College Writing).

The crux of the project is completing on-the-job learning and career development – and then putting down what was learned on paper. Students pick one day (Monday-Thursday), and must shadow for at least six hours.

A number of students went on-the-road to job shadow in places outside the area, while others checked out careers closer to home.

These “Shadows” now know what it takes to be a professional in the career they observed for a day.

Following are a couple of seniors and their “selfies” while shadowing:

ONE OF KENNA Gardiner’s job shadowing experiences was at an Equine Assisted Therapy center in Hutchinson. While there she did horse chores and shadowed Marsha while she gave a lesson to a man with autism. The pair did some prep stuff and then gave another lesson to a girl with some emotional issues. According to Kenna, “It was a blast and I am planning on pursuing a career in this field.”
