It was a successful “Coaches vs. Cancer” night for Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Lady Wolverines volleyball. The Lady Wolverines’ varsity downed the visiting Chargers from Westbrook-Walnut Grove (WWG), winning the match in five games.
After dropping the first game 15-25, MLA rallied to take the next two, 25-14 and 25-11. A fourth game win by WWG, the Lady Wolverines coming up short, 20-25, set up the fifth and deciding game. Despite falling behind early, MLA crept back to tie the score, and move ahead. WWG rebounded to tie the game at 11 before the Lady Wolverines stormed back to win, 15-11.
MLA coaching staff includes Head Coach Cheri Hanson, Junior Varsity Coach Jaime Banks, C-Squad Coach Michelle Ott and Karla Wendt.
The squad’s final regular season match will be played at Ellsworth on Thursday, October 22.

A SIGN NOTING the month of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month – and the match played as a Coaches vs. Cancer event – was the abundance of pink accessories – including athletic socks.

VARSITY TEAM MEMBERS also honored cancer survivors and families of those taken by the disease, with flower bouquets. One of the survivors noted was Head Coach Cheri Hanson, left, recognized by senior Carly Paulson, right.
