Football, Volleyball, Cross Country openers close at hand
The fall sports schedules for the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines 2015 season are set, with the opening game, match and meet all close at hand.
The Varsity Football squad will kick off their season this Saturday, August 22, when they host the Fulda Raiders. The game begins at 7 p.m. The following Friday, August 28, the team will play at Nicollet, starting at 7 p.m.
The first Junior Varsity (JV) Football game will be Monday, August 24, against Madelia, at Madelia, starting at 5:45 p.m. The first (JV) Football game will be the following Monday, August, 31, MLA hosting Granada/Huntley/East Chain-Truman (G/H/EC-T) starting at 5:45 p.m.
Monday, August 24 will also feature the first game of the season for the Junior High Football squad, the team playing also playing at Madelia, the whistle starting the game at 4:30 p.m. Start time for their first home game on Monday, August 31 against G/H/EC-T will also be at 4:30 p.m.
Varsity Volleyball, under new Head Coach Cheri Hanson, will begin their season on-the-road on Thursday, August 27, against the Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s Knights at Sleepy Eye, “C” squad action beginning the full evening at 4:45 p.m. Their first home match will be on Tuesday, September 1, when they host Madelia. The matches get underway at 5 p.m., with the “C” squad, followed by the “B” squad and the Varsity.
Junior High Volleyball players head into September for their first match of the season, the squad hosting Fulda on Thursday, September 3, starting at 4:30 P.M.
The Cross Country team is running under a pair of co-coaches, Matt Anderson and new addition, Kyle Blomgren. The harriers’ first meet of the season will be on Friday, August 28, at the Fairmont Invitational at Fairmont. Start time is yet to be determined. The one home meet will be run on Wednesday, September 2 at the Mountain Lake Golf Course, starting gun for the first race at 4 p.m.
Athletic passes – good for all sports activities – may be purchased in the high school office.
Pass prices are:
* Adults – $45.
* Students – $25 (Student Activity Ticket must be presented when attending an athletic event.)
* Family Max – $170.
* Senior Citizen (65 years and older. These passes are good for athletic events, except tournament games. These passes are good from one year to the next) – $25.
Prices at the gate are:
* Adults – $6.
* Students – $4.
