Mountain Lake City Council sets meeting date with AFSCME, LELS

Proceeds with action on pair of hazardous buildings

The Mountain Lake City Council set a meeting date with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS) as part of their Tuesday, February 17 meeting agenda.

Both AFSCME and LELS had requested the meeting in order to discuss the salary adjustments approved by the council at their Monday, December 22, 2014 meeting.

The meeting is slated to be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4. Greg Mangold of Fox-Lawson and Associates will also be attendance at the meeting.

Hazardous building update

Council members also heard a hazardous building update, proceeding with action on two properties.

The house at 412 7th Street has been vacated. Cleaning out the building and preparing for its demolition will be done as volunteers have time.

The City of Mountain Lake is seeking a court order to remove the structure on the property at 724 Prince Street. The hearing on this matter has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 24. The council directed Mountain Lake City Administrator Wendy Meyer to gather quotes for the building’s demolition.

Ten thousand dollars has been budgeted in the 2015 budget for property clean-up.

In other business

* Reviewed, and made no changes to elected official, volunteer and boards and commissions coverage or premiums from the 2014 League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) Workers’ Compensation Policy.

* Reviewed  the list of rental properties in the city as well as the status of their yearly rental inspections. Those properties that have not been inspected, or have not paid the rental inspection fee, will be turned over to Mountain Lake City Attorney Maryellen Suhrhoff.

* Reviewed the 2014 budget revenues and expenses, with no action taken.

* Discussed Section 7.03 of Mountain Lake City Code that is related to sidewalk snow removal.

* Learned that the Mountain Lake Board of Appeal and Equalization has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. Training for new city council members was discussed.

* Mayor Pro Tem David Savage closed the public meeting and opened the closed meeting to discuss on-going Mountain Lake Trail litigation per attorney-client privilege. The closed meeting was closed the public meeting re-opened after 18 minutes, with no action taken.
