Open burning of leaves in Mountain Lake

Rules and regulations; city’s burnsite hours

Leaves may be burned in the City of Mountain Lake by following eight rules and regulations:

+ Burning can be done from September 15 to December 1.

+ Burning can be done on private property in residential areas.

+ Burning can be done between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

+ All fires must be out by 8 p.m.

+ All fires must be more than 25 feet from any structure, wood fence, hedge or bush.

+ Fire must be more than 5 feet from any property line.

+ Burning is not allowed on city streets, boulevards, lake shores or any public property.

+ Fires must be attended at all times.

The City of Mountain Lake also has a burnsite specifically for trees, branches, brush, grass clippings and leaves. Burnsite hours from September to season close are – Mondays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
