Mountain Lake Public High School’s (MLHS) Homecoming Week 2017 will take its students and staff, along with Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine athletes and its fans on a tour of these United States.

Tour guides will be the newly-crowned King Kristopher Menken, along with Queen Jae Faber. The pair received their royal titles during a coronation ceremony held tonight (Saturday, September 23) in the Mountain Lake Public School auditorium. This event is the kick off for Homecoming Week featuring the theme, “MLA Tours The States.”

King Kris is the son of Shane and Carrie Menken. Queen Jae is the daughter of Craig and Deb Faber.

+ Senior class King candidates now serving as members of the Royal Family include:

  • Weston Osland, son of Chad and Pam Osland.
  • AJ Vongsy, son of Bay and Toni Saelee.
  • Jeff Wright, son of Eric and Barrie Wright.

+ Senior class Queen candidates who also take their place as members of the Royal Court are:

  • Jenneel Rodney, daughter of Dilly and Debbie Rodney.
  • Jewel Soutthivong, daughter of Toun Soutthivong and Lori Braun.
  • Marta Stoesz, daughter of Mike and Sonja Stoesz.

+ Royal underclass attendants include:

  • Junior Class Chloe Klassen, daugahter of Trenton and Mellissa Klassen and Eli Karschnik, son of Jessica Blom and Jesse Karschnik.
  • Sophomore Class Bileigh Anacker, daughter of James and Jennifer Anacker and Isaac Grev, son of David and Kendra Grev.
  • Freshman Class Carly Osland, daughter of Chad and Pam Osland and Alex Hernandez, Marcycela Balderas and Vicente Hernandez.

Juniors Regan Syverson and Sierra Pankratz served as Master and Mistress of Ceremonies for the ceremony.

Senior Madison Schroeder performed the piano solo, “A Thousand Years,” as part of the program’s entertainment line-up.

Seniors participating in fall sports – football, volleyball and boys and girls cross country – shared about their teams and their season.

The King and Queen candidates squared off in a State Trivia Game, hosted by senior Jordan Boldt, just prior to the official coronations.

The honors of presenting the King’s crown and Queen’s tiara went to sophomores Margo Stoesz and Jon Faber.

Jareya Harder provided the lights, and Fletcher Hanson, the sound, for the ceremony.

The coronation program was presented by the MLHS Student Council. Its co-advisors are Jaime Banks and Kim Syverson.

  • Monday, September 25 – Lazy Car Day (wear pjs to school); Junior High Football, home against Red Rock Central, 4:30 p.m.; Junior High Volleyball, home against Heron Lake-Okabena, 4:30 p.m. and Junior Varsity Football, home versus Red Rock Central, 5:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 26 – State Pride Day (dress in state-themed items as follows: seventh grade – Minnesota,  eighth grade – Nevada, freshmen – New York, sophomores – California, juniors – Hawaii and seniors – Alaska); C. O. T. Y. (Class of the Year) contest “Taste the States;” Varsity Cross Country, at St. James, 4:30 p.m.; Junior Higih Volleyball, home against Windom, 4:30 p.m. and A/B/C Volleyball, at Southwest Minnesota Christian in Edgerton, 4:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 27 – American Day (wear red, white and blue).
  • Thursday, September 28 – Sightseer Day (dress like a tourist); C. O. T. Y. contest “Road Trip Obstacle Course” and A/B/C Volleyball, home against Hills-Beaver Creek, 4:45 p.m.
  • Friday, September 29 – Wolverine Day (wear Wolverine gear); Pep Fest; C. O. T. Y. contest “State Puzzle” and Varsity Football, at home versus Renville County West, 7 p.m.
