Making energy savings even more personal

Mountain Lake, Windom Electric Utilities introduce ‘My Energy Savings’

Mountain Lake Municipal Utilites and Windom Municipal Utility are introducing the new name of “My Energy Savings” for its conservation and energy efficiency program. The more descriptive name of My Energy Savings is intended to remind and encourage electric customers to apply for an electric rebate when they purchase energy efficient appliances, lighting, and heating and cooling equipment.

Effective immediately, the name change to My Energy Savings – from Savings Plus – also
comes with a corresponding logo and tagline of “Smart Choices today. Savings
tomorrow.”

“My Energy Savings is about smart choices today and realizing savings tomorrow,” said
Brent Bown, Windom Superintendent. “The savings come in the form of rebates for
energy efficient appliances, lighting, and heating and cooling equipment, as well as
energy reductions that occur through smart choices.”

Mountain Lake and Windom encourage their public power customers to enjoy savings
by making energy efficient purchases, filling out a rebate form to qualify for for bill
credits and using energy wisely.

In 2016, the 156 residential customers in Mountain Lake and Windom took advantage of rebate opportunities and received approximately $12,000 to upgrade appliances, heating and cooling equipment and lighting.

More information on how to participate in My Energy Savings is available on the web at:
customers.myenergysavings.org. On this website, customers will find rebate forms, best
practices and resources to make personal energy savings. Commercial/industrial
customers can also find information about complimentary efficiency consultations for
their local places of business.

“As public power utilities, the employees and commissioners of Mountain Lake and
Windom electric utilities encourage our friends and neighbors to visit our websites and
learn about the rebates that are available,” said Wendy Meyer, Mountain Lake City
Administrator. “When seeking electricity answers, we hope that our customers look to
us as their number one resource for information.”

New for 2017 – rebates for Tier 2 Advanced Power Strips

New for 2017, Mountain Lake and Windom are offering $20 rebates for Tier 2 Advanced
Power Strips. The Tier 2 Advanced Power Strip qualifies for a rebate because of its
exceptional performance in reducing home and office electronics standby, or vampire
plug loads (sometimes called “phantom loads”) that continue to draw power when not in
active use.

A Tier 2 Power Strip makes use of controlled and uncontrolled plug load receptacles
that can energize or de-energize based on the intended purpose of electronic
device. The controlled receptables of a power strip can help customers save energy by
reducing standby power and stop the drawing of power when turned off or not in active
use.

‘My Energy Savings’ joint effort of Mountain Lake, Windom utilities and CMPAS

The My Energy Savings (MES) program is a collaborative project between Mountain
Lake Municipal Utilities and Windom Municipal Utility and their joint action agency,
Central Municipal Power Agency/Services (CMPAS – pronounced “compass”) and is
offered through its Central Municipal Power Community Services Division (CMPCS).

The MES program helps Mountain Lake and Windom met tracking and reporting requirements of the Conservation Improvement Program monitored by the State of Minnesota.

Questions about the My Energy Savings program can be answered by calling Mountain Lake Municipal Utilities at 507-427-2633 or Windom Municipal Utility at 507-831-6151.

Central Municipal Power Community Services (CMPCS) works collaboratively with its
public power members to offer community-based conservation, energy efficiency and
green pricing programs for retail customers as a division of CMPAS.

CMPAS serves as Mountain Lake and Windom’s non-profit, project-based joint action agency that provides energy planning and management services for power supply, transmission, energy market and electric utility services.
