B-OPS School Board makes superintendent decision

Interim Half-Time Superintendent Ray Arsenault given 3-year contract

B-OPS INTERIM HALF-Time Superintendent Ray Arsenault now has a three-year contract with the school district.

In a unanimous decision at a special Butterfield-Odin Public School (B-OPS) School Board meeting held Thursday evening, May 11, board members gave Interim Half-Time Superintendent Ray Arsenault a three-contract. The motion for the move was presented by Andy Pierson, and seconded by Shannon Sykes.

The contract offer followed discussion on the school district’s superintendent position with Gary Lee  and Harold Remme of the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA).

The MSBA has been working with the board to permanently fill the 2½-day-a-week post for the past several months.

Earlier the MSBA had presented a pair of candidates to be interviewed for the administrative post – Arsenault, who has been serving the school district since March 1, along with Dr. Jeff Walker of Wisconsin. Since that time, Walker has decided to take a job outside of education.

Lee and Remme proposed four options to the board prior to their final decision:

  • Select Arsenault.
  • Discontinue search as a permanent post and seek an interim for one year.
  • Discontinue search and look for an interim superintendent.
  • Reopen the search for a permanent superintendent.

Contract negotiations between the school board and Arsenault are underway.
