Young zoo crew

Kangaroos and horses and alligators and buffalo and more, oh my!

A young zoo crew in their straw safari hats have been studying animal habitats and are demonstrating what they have learned in the 29th annual Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) Kindergarten “Show-and-Tell Zoo,” under the tutelage of their teacher, Sheryl Fast.

Stuffed animals of all sizes and shapes have been gathered together in their respective gang (buffalo), pride (lions), parade (elephants), tower (giraffes), bloat (hippopotamuses), troop (kangaroos), barrel (monkeys), crash (rhinoceroses) and congregation (alligators) – with separate sections for birds of all feathers along with the unique Imagination Station, a place where the make-believe, such as unicorns, dragons, horses with wings and other special creatures live.

Personallly-guided tours of the zoo are provided by the students. Tours were held today (Friday, April 21), from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will continue over the weekend, Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, hours remaining the same. On Monday, April 24, MLC classes will take a walk-through to view the varied species from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Following the final group, and the gates close, the Kindergarten zookeepers transform from zoo crew to clean-up crew.

While studying their zoo animals, setting up and taking down the exhibits, the Kindergarten students and staff celebrate the activity by singing “Zoo Zoo Trip to the Zoo,” a song about God the Creator and His charming creation of animals.
