The Twenties make roaring comeback

MLHS Juniors/Seniors bring back spirit of ‘The Gilded Age’ – if only for just one night

The Twenties made a roaring comeback this weekend as Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) juniors and seniors brought back the spirit of “The Gilded Age” – if only for one night – during the 2017 prom.

All of the activities were celebrated this Saturday, April 8 under the theme, “The Roaring Twenties.”

Events kicked off with special “walk-throughs” by attendees at the Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake and the Laker Apartments.

Next up was the introduction of prom attendees during the Grand March, held in the Mountain Lake Public School Auditorium. This event was hosted by the parents of the sophomore class.

This year’s prom was held in the barn of MLHS Ag Teacher Stephen Funk and his wife, Heather Funk. The meal was catered by Brenda Harder of One-Way Catering of Mountain Lake. Featured entertainment was by Comedy Sportz. A dance followed the entertinament. The junior class hosted the prom, led by MLHS Junior Class Advisors Kristin Pfeiffer, Jessica Svehla and Jayme Fast.

Action after 11:30 p.m. turned to the After-Prom, held at the Springfield Bowling Alley. The agenda included a perfomance by a hypnotist, Bingo, games, bowling, pizza, pop – and plenty of prizes. This event was sponsored by the parents of the junior class.

Buses transported prom-goers to the prom, as well as to-and-from Springfield, with all activities wrapping up as students arrived back at MLHS at approximately 4 a.m.

FOR SOME SECOND Grand March walk-through fun, black fedoras for the guys and feather boas for the girls – or mix-and-match for either – were available to wear as accessories in order to add a Roaring Twenties atmosphere. (Kim Blomgren photo)

AND THIS TRIO of seniors were ready to rock the feather boa accessory, as well as the flapper feathered headband. From left, Ruben Fentanez, Mac Bryan and Julio Gutierrez. However, it is difficult to tell which ’20s Jazz Age dance they were performing. Was it the Charleston, the Cake Walk, the Black Bottom, the Salsa, the Foxtrot – or the Flea Hop? AT THE FUNK farm, the MLHS Junior Class advisors had the opportunity to relive memories of their own high school proms. In this case, it meant stepping into the photo booth.
