Squad stands 3-3 overall, 3-0 in the Red Rock
The Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (MLA-C) Wolverine Girls Softball squad is at the nexus of a new sport pairing experience, with MLA and Comfrey players joining forces for 2017 – and together is at the beginning of the season.
The team’s record stands at 3-3; undefeated at 3-0 in the Red Rock Conference. In fact, the Wolverines are sititng on a three-game winning streak. The opened the season on April 4 with a 14-1 loss at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. Their home opener was April 6, with MLA-C dropping the game 5-1 to Windom. In the third game of the spring, it was a shoot-out at Sleepy Eye Public on April 7, with the Wolverines dropping the tilt 15-13 to the home team. After this 0-3 start, the girls have won their last three, all conference diamond match-ups – 14-0 over Murray County Central on April 11, with Molly Carnell tossing a no-hitter; a 6-3 victory at home over Adrian on April 13 and topped their April 18 host, Heron Lake-Okabena, 6-3.
In that Tuesday, April 18 win on-the-road, the Wolverines’ winning pitcher was sophomore Molly Carnell, with freshman Margo Stoesz connecting for a trio of hits.
The squad’s next scheduled game is tomorrow (Thursday, April 20) – weather-permitting – at home against Section 2A foe, Madelia/Truman.
The team’s head coach is Brian Hopwood, with Shawn Naas as assistant coach.
