Expressing themselves through dance

Mountain Lake Dance to hold 2017 Spring Recital this Saturday

According to the late Martha Graham, American modern dancer and choreographer, Dance is the hidden language of the soul.

This Saturday, April 1, 41 young area dancers will be taking to the stage, expressing themselves through dance – rather than words – in the Spring 2017 Recital of Mountain Lake Dance. The program, to be held in the Mountain Lake Public School Auditorium, will begin at 11 a.m. Admission is $2.50 per person, with those ages five and under, free.

Mountain Lake Dance includes dancers that range in age from preschool (age 3+) through sixth grade. The group performs ballet and jazz routines. About Mountain Lake Dance

Director Bartel notes that this is the fifth recital for Mountain Lake Dance, and that four school districts are represented in the group of performers.

Bartel adds, “The spring dance semester ran eight weeks, with weekly rehearsals (preschool completed two rehearsals a week for three weeks). The music used is all positive to help the girls feel confident and strong, as well as provide encouragement to those who watch.”

The dancers work on basic technique, choreography instruction and building community.
