Eunice Broughton

Funeral services for 95-year-old Eunice Broughton of St. James, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, March 31, 2017, at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James, with Reverend Robert Springer officiating. The church is located at 10454 250th Avenue.

Burial will follow in the Albion Cemetery, located adjacent to the church in rural St. James.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 30, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, located at 906 10th Avenue South. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Eunice Broughton passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, Minnesota.

Eunice LaVonne Williams was born on March 20, 1921, near Odin, Minnesota, the daughter of L.H. “Herman” and Anna (Mandsager) Williams. She attended country school near Odin until the Williams family moved to rural Minneota, Minnesota. Eunice graduated from Minneota High School in 1937.

On September 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Conrad Broughton at Taunton, Minnesota. They farmed near Minneota until moving to rural St. James in 1946. While living near Godahl, Minnesota, Eunice was a secretary at the Godahl Creamery. She was an original member of the Godahl Kitchen Band.

The family moved to St. James in 1958, and Eunice began working at Nelson’s Food Market in St. James. She later worked at Collier’s Red Owl in St. James, and retired from Superfair in St. James in 1991.

While a member of Albion Lutheran Church, Eunice taught Vacation Bible School, was a member of the ladies aid and sang in the church choir.

Eunice loved to crochet, embroider, play cards and solve crossword puzzles. Eunice and Conrad enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at Strawberry Lake near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Eunice was also an avid bowler and attended the National Women’s Bowling Tournament for 37 consecutive years, traveling to many states to compete. In addition, she enjoyed vacation travel, especially a trip to Alaska.

Eunice is survived by daughters, Carmen (Ted) Trampe of North St. Paul, Minnesota and Barbara Mays (friend, David Hart), of Maple Grove, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Ali (Dan) Adsit of White Bear Township, Minnesota, Nicholas Trampe of Las Vegas, Nevada and Daniel (Laura) Mays of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five great grandchildren, Kaitlin and Makenna Adsit and Asher, Annika and Trygg Mays; brother, Arden (Arlene) Williams of St. James; sisters, Audrey Peterson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Maxine Sayler of Lakewood, Colorado; sister-in-law, Fay Williams and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Conrad; brothers, Gene and Lyle Williams; brother-in-law, Philip Peterson; sister-in-law, Janice Williams; son-in-law, Gary Mays and nephews Lee Arden Williams and Bill Johnson.

Eunice was loved and cherished by all, and will be greatly missed.
