Address spring sports agenda items

The Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) School Board held the group’s February meeting tonight (Tuesday, February 21), and addressed agenda items dealing with spring sports –
+ Approved the resignation of Ryan Jans as a junior high baseball coach.
+ Approved baseball program volunteers:
- Dan Suess.
- Bob Blom.
- Mitchell Schroeder.
- Travis Janzen.
- Isaac Hildebrandt.
+ Approved track and field volunteers:
- Randy Loewen.
- Justin Klassen.
In other business
+ Moved the April school board meeting from Monday, April 17 at 6 p.m. to Wednesday, April 19 at the same time. The move was made because April 17 is Easter Monday, and there is no school.
+ Moved the Meet and Confer meeting scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Monday afteroon, April 17 to Wednesday, April 19, at the same time.
+ Approved the 2017-2020 Achievement & Integration Plan and Fiscal Year 2018 Achievement & Integration Budget. The plan created is for the Red Rock Ridge Integration Collaborative, a joint effort between the three area school districts of Mountain Lake Public, Jackson County Central and Windom Area. This new three-year plan was presented at a joint committee meeting held Wednesday, Feburary 15 at PeaceMeals in Mountain Lake. Both the plan and the budget are due to be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education for review and approval by March 15, 2017.

- Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) for Early Childhood Initiative – $145.
- SWIF for Early Childhood Family Education/Early Childhood Initiative Coordinator – $500.
- SWIF for Pool Project Donation – $885.
- Target for the Junior Class Play – $700.
- City of Mountain Lake for the Fourth Quarter Indoor Swimming Pool Donation – $3,684.72.
- Presbyterian Women for Early Childhood Initiative Children’s Items – $50.
- Mountain Lake/Odin/Ormsby Sportsmen’s Club for Trap Shooting Team – $327.
- Hanson Agency for Baseball Banner Ad – $250.
- Remick Foundation for Senior Class Trip to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre – $3,275.
- Remick Foundation for 7/8 Grades Science/History – $1,802.
- Remick Foundation for Grades 5-8 Science Camp – $8,600.
- B & K Sales for Baseball Banner Ad – $250.
+ Approved open enrollments – four from one family coming into the district from the Windom Area Public School District and two from one family leaving the district to the Butterfield-Odin Public School District.

+ Heard reports from the Building Committee and Staff Development.
+ Received the following information from MLPS Superintendent Bill Strom:
- There is a scheduling conflict with the Class of 2017’s graduation cermeony scheduled for Friday, May 26, with a section tournament baseball game. MLPS is asking that the section allow the tournament game begin at 11 a.m. on the Friday.
- The school district was recently notified that its application for Pathway II Funding was approved. Pathway Funding is used to assist families in need to pay for preschool. The MLPS School District received approximatley $48,000 from the fund.
- Evaucation training for both elementary and high school students was held last Friday, February 17. This drill involved bringing student to rally points in the event of a hostile intruder.
- It is necessary that the annual FFA Banquet, that was slated for March 14, be rescheduled due to township elections occurring that evening.
- Under consideration is the possibility of renovating classrooms this summer, specifically moving the food lab from its current third-floor location in the 1940 building to rooms adjacent to the Career Technical Education (CTE) classrooms in the 1972 addition.
- The district has received one official application and two additional inquiries about the Elementary Principal position.
