The local Lions Club was chartered on January 9, 1976, during a dinner ceremony held in the Mountain Lake Public School cafeteria. Twenty-five Charter Members received their club pins and were officially entered into the roll as members of Lions Club International. Five of those men are still active in the club – Maynard Anderson, Roger Goertzen, Paul Metcalf, Eldean Ratzlaff and John Weir. The honored guests attending the anniversary meeting were Lions 5M3 District Governor Larry Muenchow and his wife, Lion Sue Muenchow, of Tracy. Governor Larry presented a brief history of Lionism, and challenged the local club to continue its tradition of “Service to Community and the World.” Four of the five Charter Members were able to attend the meeting – Lions Anderson, Goertzen, Metcalf and Weir. Each received a certificate and a pin chevron recognizing their four decades as a Lion. Pictured above are those Lions, along with one of the honored guests.
