St. James Electric was presented the 2016 distinguished dealer award from Terra-Therm Inc., on Friday, June 17, at their annual company golf outing at Mountain Lake Golf Course in Mountain Lake.

Terra-Therm Inc., a leader in geothermal heating and cooling systems, recognizes 10 dealers nationwide each year for outstanding sales, excellent customer satisfaction, technical excellence and superior business practice.

St. James Electric has been selling and installing geothermal systems in homes and businesses within a 60-mile radius of St. James since 2008. “We did our home first, and have installed about 18  a year ever since,” states Mike Kulseth, co-owner of St. James Electric. Mike says that he had never installed a system at that time. He went through Terra Therm Inc.’s training, and worked closely with Territory Sales Manager Dale Halgren to sell six geothermal heat pumps before he had ever installed a unit. Thanks to Terra-Them’s assistance, all geothermal systems that St. James Electric has installed have been successful.

“We’ve had very happy customers, and get most of our customers through referrals to friends and family. Most of our publicity is word of mouth,” according to Ellie Kulseth, co-owner of St. James Electric.

When Mike talks with customers considering geothermal systems vs. a conventional furnace and air conditioner, he shows them the savings. Mike shares that, “most customers can achieve a 70% savings across the board compared to liquid propane (LP) gas. Also, the life expectancy of a geothermal heat pump is longer than conventional HVAC systems. LP is not going to say at less than $1 forever.”

St. James Electric offers the complete geothermal installation package from earth loop and heat loss/gain design to heat pump installation. Their focus is on personalized geothermal design, including an accurate heat loss calculation to assure that the size of the system is not too big – or too small – for the building.

St. James Electric is a family-owned business. Owners Mike and Ellie Kulseth started their business in 1997 in St. James.
