Seniors in MLHS class visit school that runs within, around professional recording studios
Studying music across the ages has led the seniors in the Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) Haydn-to-Hip Hop music class of Andrea Brinkman, the school’s vocal instructor and director of choirs, to making their own music for today.
On Wednesday, May 4, the group visited the High School for Recording Arts (HSRA) in St. Paul. HSRA is a project-based, public charter school that operates within and around two professional recording studios. Students earn time in the studio by completing academic projects in the core learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. HSRA encourages students who may have dropped out or been pushed out from traditional schools to complete their diplomas through a love of music and the music business. The school opened in 1996 as a pilot program for at-risk students with interest in a music career. It is located in a 20,000-square-foot former factory and operates within and around two professional recording studios, providing students opportunities for individualized hand-on learning.
Brinkman’s students went into the studio to learn some dance moves, record and take part in the mixing of their own song, visited the VIP room and interacted with the students of HSRA
To end the day, the Mountain Lake group enjoyed some time at The Melting Pot, an original fondue restaurant where guests can enjoy several fondue cooking styles and a variety of unique entrees, salads, and indulgent desserts.
