Date is May 24; Darfur and Odin residents welcome
A Watonwan County household hazardous waste collection will be held in Butterfield on Tuesday, May 24, from 5 p.m., behind Butterfield City Hall. Darfur and Odin residents are also welcome to bring their household hazardous waste to the collection site.
Accepted will be the following:
+ Paint – oil or latex.
+ Aerosol cans – with the contents.
+ Thinners.
+ Strippers.
+ Primers.
+ Varnishes.
+ Preservatives.
+ Glues and adhesives.
+ Household cleaners
+ Insecticides and pesticides.
+ Poisons.
+ Car batteries.
+ Oil and oil filters ($1 per oil filter charge).
+ Fluorescent bulbs (small charge.)
+ Mercury and mercury thermometers.
+ Tires – big and small (charge of $1 per tire and up, depending on size).
+ Televisions and monitors ($15 each).
+ Printers, scanners, fax machines, radios, DVD/VCR, cable boxes and miscellaneous electronics ($10 each).
+ Computers/laptops ($5 each).
+ Keyboard, mice and speakers (no charge).
+ All other miscellaneous electronics ($5 each).
Collection will also be held in St. James on Wednesday, May 25, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Watonwan County Shop, located on 1304 7th Avenue South, east of the fairgrounds. The collection line begins at the northwest entrance of the fairgrounds (watch for signs). No business waste collected – only household hazardous waste.
Accepted only at St. James (free of charge) are – dishwashers, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, microwaves, water softeners, coffee makers, toasters, toaster ovens, mixers and vacuums.
+ NO empty paint cans at either location.
