In parent letter, Superintendent Bill Strom has statement on bomb threat rumors
In a letter that went out to parents of students at Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) on Wednesday, March 23, MLPS Superintendent Bill Strom addressed recent concerns about student safety at the school.
“On Friday, March 18, 2016, rumors of a bomb threat at MLPS caused concern among community members, parents, students and faculty members,” states Superintendent Strom. “Information collected at that time from students, staff and others led us to conclude that there was not a valid bomb threat at our school.”
Strom went on to stress that, “Had we received a valid bomb threat, we would have taken immediate action and implemented the school’s emergency procedures.”
He acknowledged an appreciation of and support for parents’ concerns for the safety of their children. Strom added that school administration welcomes parent inquiries and questions, especially since this past Friday’s events, and will continue to do so.
However, Strom also announced that the Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) Student Talent Show, scheduled for Friday, April 1, has been cancelled.
The letter notes that the school is committed to the safety of students and want them and their parents to feel safe. “We will continue to review district procedures and protocols of crisis events to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” concludes Strom.
