Carmen Syverson, Ryan McCue named Region 2A, Subsection 6 Triple ‘A’ Award winners
A pair of Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) seniors – Carmen Syverson and Ryan McCue – were named the Region 2A, Subsection 6 Triple “A” Award winners. They will be interviewed on Wednesday, January 27 in Mankato, with the opportunity to be named the Region 2A Section “Triple A” winner.
Male subsection winners will be honored at the Boys’ Subsection Basketball Final, while the male section winners will be recognized at the Boys’ Section Basketball Final. As well, the female subsection winners will be honored at the Girls’ Subsection Basketball Final, while the male section winners will be recognized at the Girls’ Section Basketball Final. The statewide Triple “A” male and female winners will be announced at the Triple “A” banquet held in conjunction with the Boys’ State Basketball Tournament in March. The top two award finishers from each region will be invited to the banquet. MSHSL officials will announce the four Triple “A” Award recipients at the banquet. Award recipient – a female and a male from both a Class A and a Class AA school – will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.
The Triple “A” Awards, presented by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) are sponsored by AAA and Fairview.
The purpose of the Triple “A” Awards Program is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field and in the fine arts; to elevate academic standards and create greater awareness of MSHSL-sponsored activities and their values and to provide MSHSL member schools the opportunity to participate in a statewide program that supports, promotes and recognizes academic and extra-curricular achievements.
To be eligible for the “Academics, Arts and Athletics” Award, student must be a high school senior, hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, participate in MSHSL-sponsored athletics and fine arts activities and comply with the MSHSL’s Student Code of Conduct.
The award recipients are selected through a multi-level process involving MSHSL member schools, the MSHSL’s administrative regions and a special committee of educators, business leaders and members from the fine arts and athletic communities.
Syverson, the daughter of Steve and Kim Syverson, participates in volleyball, track-and-field, band, choir, and one-act play.
McCue, the son of son of Mike McCue and Leslie Erickson, is a participant in cross country, boys basketball, track-and-field, band and choir.
