Some of the lake-related tasks could be done by city employees

The goals, projects presented by Lake Commission Chair Jim Peterson include:
+ Scheduling work days as needed. Future work days could include working on the island trail, cutting trees and hauling brush.
+ Working with local schools for a Lake Clean-Up Day.
+ Providing assistance with the Fourth of July Fishing Contest, as needed.
+ Keeping the aluminum can bin as a fundraiser.
+ Converting the beach area at the lake to a recreation area complete with picnic tables, grills and possibly sand volleyball.
+ Continuing Secchi disc readings.
+ Requesting help from from the Mountain Lake/Odin/Ormsby Sportsmen’s Clubs for the aeration system.
+ Continuing the weed harvesting.
+ Continuing work on the fishing pier.
+ Maintaining the web page.
+ Considering whether or not to have an entry in the Monday night Pow Wow Grande Parade. If there is a good idea for a theme, plans will be to go forward with an entry.
Mountain Lake Administrator/City Clerk Wendy Meyer was a guest at the meeting, and presented a list of lake-related jobs that could be handled by city employees.
In other business
+ Noted that LeRoy Radtke donated his time to cut “Thin Ice” signs out of old traffic signs. They are ready to have the decals be placed on the blanks.
+ Discussed the pros and cons of several companies that sell weed barriers in connection with the Mountain Lake Trail, however, most of them are centralized around small landscaping projects. The conclusion was that more research is needed to be completed, and possibly samples requested. In addition, took note that two “Blind Curve” signs are needed for Heppner’s Point, as well as two “Sharp Curve” signs where the trail turns at the bottom of the hill on 560th Avenue.
+ Learned that the term of Jay Schied is up at the end of December 2015. He is considering renewing his membership. However, a new member is needed to replace the vacancy left when Matt Anderson submitted his resignation.
+ Heard and approved the treasurer’s report. Bills included: Citizen Publishing for “Thin Ice” ads ($135), Allen D. Kahler, Commissioner for Yoder Hearing ($1,124.20), Larry A. Mages, Commissioner for Yoder Hearing ($1,269.10) and Sid Ewert, harvester storage ($180). Income included: State of Minnesota, Invasive Species Grant ($4,229.03).
