WINDOM/MOUNTAIN LAKE (W/ML) Varsity Cobra Wrestling earned a split in their Tuesday, December 22 triangular meet at Windom against Canby and Bird Island/Olivia/Lake Lillian/Danube (BOLD). In the opening match against the Lancers of Canby, the Cobras jumped out to the lead at 23-0, but the upper weight classes were the team’s downfall. Willaby started the W/ML scoring with a 9-1 major win at 106. Zach Spinks at 126 took a decision and Alex Borsgard at 132 scored a major decision, to give the Cobras a 11-10 lead. They extended the margin with wins for Evan Wiens at 138 and Yanic Tade at 145, nailing a pin at 1:09. However, W/ML did not notch anotther win until Ricardo Garcia at285 pinned Josh Hansen in 1:48. Canby claimed the win, 41-26. They rebounded to defeat BOLD in their split of the tri, 47-33. Willaby and Spinks earned pins in that win, followed by a Kade Simmons technical fall to put the Cobras up 23-0. Three straight BOLD forfeits extended the cushion to 41-0. Tade kept it rolling with a pin in 23 seconds at 152. The Cobras have a break until the Tuesday, January 12 Cobra Triangular at Mountain Lake.
