On Monday, November 16, the Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) National Honor Society (NHS) held the annual dinner and induction ceremony at the Mountain Lake Community Center.

The ceremony was conducted by current NHS members, seniors Ryan McCue, son of Mike McCue/Leslie Erickson; Signey Stoesz, daughter of Michael and Sonja Stoesz; Carmen Syverson, daughter of Steven and Kimberly Syverson; Akin Tema-Lopez, son of Telesforo and Adelina Tema-Lopez and Ashley Watkins, daughter of David and Tammy Watkins.

The NHS is composed of juniors and seniors who have proven themselves outstanding in scholarship, character, leadership and service.

The scholarship requirement is met by maintaining a “B” (3.20) average of above.

A student who shows positive leadership is one who takes a constructive lead in the classroom and in-school activities, who contributes constructive ideas for school improvement and who positively influences others for the good of the total school.

A student judged to have a strong character is one who meets responsibilities promptly, is tolerant of others, honest in dealings with others and upholds the principles of morality and ethics.

Service to the school and community-at-large, whether it be athletics, fine arts or other services, is the final area in which the potential NHS candidate is judged.

This year’s students selected to join the NHS are junior Liana Blomgren, daughter of Kyle and Kimberly Blomgren; senior Chanah Brandt, daughter of Larry and Lynn Brandt; junior Samuel Grev, son of David and Kendra Grev; junior Samuel Hirsch, son of Alan and Wendy Hirsch; junior Katherine Hofmann, daughter of Perry and Cheryl Hofmann; junior Rebekah Klassen, daughter of Chad and Esther Klassen and junior Thomas Kraemer, son of Kenneth and Rebecca Kraemer.

The NHS at MLHS was founded in 1946.
