Permanent end date is December 11
Come December 11, the 262 employees of PM Beef in Windom (PM Windom) will be out of a job when the plant ends operation. According to a letter released to the Cottonwood County Citizen, the action is deemed permanent.
The news broke on Monday morning, October 12, during meetings with employees and owners.
PM Beef in Windom is southwest Minnesota’s last remaining beef processing facility. Before it was PM Beef of Windom, the plant was operated by Caldwell Packing. In fact, a beef processing facility has been in Windom for decades.
According to their business profile on their website, PM Beef Holdings LLC was started in the 1990s by billionaire John Kluge, founder of holding company Metromedia, and James Ukrop of Ukrop’s Super Markets. The company promotes itself as a leading processor and supplier of meat products, including kosher meats, to consumers, retailers and foodservice operators.
