Will host Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday night at Munson Field
Section 3 9-man football playoffs will begin Tuesday night, October 13, with 7 p.m. kickoffs at the site of the higher seed. The second round games will be hosted by the higher remaining seeds on Saturday, October 17.
The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines (6-2) earned the #3 spot behind the #2 seed, Madelia, who was also 6-2 on the season. Although the Blackhawks have a lower QRF (a computer formula that factors in strength of schedule) ranking (26.8) than the Wolverines (28.3), they did defeat MLA in the head-to-head match-up earlier in the season. MLA will host sixth-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove (3-5) in Tuesday’s games.
Madelia, meanwhile, hosts #7-seed Fulda (1-7) on Tuesday.
The #1 seed in Section 3 went to Hills-Beaver Creek, which went 7-1 this season, earning it a #9 QRF ranking. The Patriots will take on #8-seed Heron Lake-Okabena (1-7) – which is making its first playoff appearance since 2012 – in Tuesday’s round.
In Tuesday’s final 9-man game, Edgerton/Ellsworth (5-3) – which reached the 9-man state final last season – is the #4 seed and hosts fifth-seeded Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman (4-4).
