The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine Varsity Volleyball squad won the second game of the match, but lost to the host Springfield Tigers in four games. The match, held Monday evening, September 21, had game scores of  21-25, 25-23, 14-25 and 12-25.

Signey Stoesz and Carmen Syverson led with five kills each, Marta Stoesz contributed four and Lexia Peters, three. Libero Emily Jahnke had 25 digs. At the service stripe, Chanah Brandt went 12/12. Teammates Signey Stoesz was 15/16, Carmen Syverson, 13/14 with an ace deuce, Marta Stoesz served 11/13 also with a pair of aces and Lexia Peters was 10/12 with one ace. Signey had eight set assists with her sister, Marta, with nine.

Says Head Coach Cheri Hanson, “We did some nice things when we moved the set outside and away from their blockers. We struggled with our serving – especially during game three. That killed out comeback momentum we had gained from winning the second game, and we just couldn’t quite get the job finished. We had some nice rallies and again I feel like we could play with this team if we had all of our systems working the way they did in game two. We keep improving and working the things we need to do. It will come together just as it is supposed to . . . I have faith in these girls! They are amazing!

The team is now 4-4 overall.

Next up is another away match – at Southwest Christian in Edgerton – today (Tuesday, September 22). The team returns home on Thursday, September 24, when they host Hills/Beaver-Creek.
