Tommy Kraemer in top 15 in boys’ race
The boys and girls Mountain Lake Area (MLA) cross country runners of Co-Coaches Matt Anderson and Kyle Blomgren, ran in the eight-team Eagle Invitational Meet held at the Windom Country Club on Monday, September 21.
Junior Tommy Kraemer cracked the top 15 in the boys’ race with a 14th-place finish with a time of 19:05.8. First in for the boys was the state’s fourth-ranked Class A runner, Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet’s (LC-WM/N) John Roth who ran the 5,000 meter course in 17:10.2.
Winning the boys’ team title was Springfield/Cedar Mountain (their top six runners finishing 2-6-14-15-26) tallying 63 points to clip St. James (5-8-10-20-22) and Windom Area (4-7-9-21-24), each team scoring 65 points. The Saints finished second on a 25-30 advantage at the sixth-runner tiebreaker. LC-WM/N was fourth in the boys’ team standings with 75 points, followed by MLA (116), Heron Lake/Okabena (HL-O) (139) and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s/Sleepy Eye/New Ulm Cathedral (SESM/SE/NUC) (161). Southwest Christian/Edgerton (SWC/E) ran incomplete.
LC-WM/N claimed the girls’ title (2-8-12-15-22), eking out a four-point win – 59-63 – over SESM/SE/NUC (1-11-16-17-18). Finishing in third with 80 points was HL-O (4-9-10-21-35). Springfield/Cedar Mountain finished fourth (105), followed by SWC/E (116), St. James (136), Windom (148) and MLA (193).
In the girls’ race over the same route, SESM/SE/NUC sophomore Brianna Poleskey ran to a first-place finish, clocked at 20:49.4.
The teams next run Tuesday, September 29, at the St. James Invitational.
