The Good Samaritan Society-Mountain Lake is sponsoring a Walkway of Flags over the Fourth of July weekend. The Walkway of Flags is designed to honor ordinary, everyday men and women – saluting them as heroes. They are heroes because of the courage they display. Perhaps they defended this country. Maybe they helped make the community a better place in which to live. Now, many are using that courage to age as gracefully as possible.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, sidewalks at Mountain Lake City Park will be lined with small American flags, each flag bearing the name of a person honored through a gift to Good Samaritan Society-Mountain Lake. Following the weekend, the flags will continue to be displayed throughout the month of July around the grounds of the Good Samaritan Society communities – The Village and The Lodge. These flags will stand as a powerful testament to the courage of the one whose name is designated on each one.

To participate, donate a monetary gift, along with the name of the person or persons being honored, before Tuesday, June 30. Then, take the opportunity to stroll through the flags and take the time to read the name on each flag – the name of an everyday hero, quite possibly your neighbor, friend, relative – of just someone whose name you recognize. To become a Red Tag donor, contribute $15-$24; a White Tag donor, $25-49 and Blue Tag donor, $50+.

All proceeds will be used to improve the lives of those living at Good Samaritan Society-Mountain Lake communities – all courageous everyday folks in their own right. Monies have been earmarked to expand the sidewalk system of the campus in order to create a continuous path; a safe place for tenants and residents to walk – without having to enter city streets.
