Marilyn Franz

A Memorial Service for Marilyn Kaye Franz, age 67, of Shakopee, Minnesota, formerly of Windom, Minnesota, will be held on Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at Christ Presbyterian Church on 6901 Normandale Road in Edina, Minnesota. Lunch will be served following. There will be a gathering of friends and family on Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Franz home on 981 Rosewood Circle in Shakopee.

Marilyn Kaye Franz left this world on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 after enduring a year-long journey with cancer. She was loved and comforted by her family at the N.C. Little Hospice in Edina.

Marilyn was born on March 2, 1948 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, that daughter of Menno and Esther (Ratzlaff) Schroeder. Sadly, she lost her mother at age two. As a young girl, she enjoyed riding her bike and especially loved ice skating.

On May 17, 1964, Marilyn was baptized upon confession of her faith at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. Marilyn would later earn a degree from the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Marilyn found her future in a sweet local boy, Jay Franz. They were married at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake on September 9, 1970. They would enjoy almost 45 years together farming and raising a family. Marilyn was a meticulous bookkeeper and created a beautiful home to raise their two children, Nikki and Chad. She had a special talent for growing and arranging flowers. She earned many accolades for her horticultural skills.

Marilyn was passionate about decorating her home. She had an artistic eye for design and yet her finest masterpiece was creating a loving family. She treasured her time rocking on the porch watching her grandchildren run and play. Marilyn Franz leaves behind a magnificent legacy of marriage and motherhood.

She will be missed by her husband, Jay Owen Franz; her daughter, Nikki (Franz) Neeser and husband, Karl; her son, Chad Franz and wife, Katie. She will forever be adored by her five grandchildren; Kassie, Brice, Kendra, Andrew, and Adam.
