Water, sewer rates increase; electric CIP surcharge decreases

City of Mountain Lake’s Municipal Utility takes action effective January 1, 2015; changes first noticed on late February bill

The City of Mountain Lake’s Municipal Utility took action – effective January 1, 2015 – to increase water and sewer rates, but the electric Conservation Improvement Plan (CIP) surcharge will decrease from 3% to 1.5% of the electric bill.

As an example, a household using 4,000 gallons of water per month will see a water bill increase of $1.08 per month. The sewer increase for this same household would be 77 cents a month. As far as sewer rates, Mountain Lake Utility bills sewer at a flat rate; only commercial/industrial bills are based on usage. In looking at electricity charges, a household with a $75 electric bill will see the CIP surcharge drop from $2.25 to $1.13.

These changes will first be noticed on the Utility bill received in late February, and that is due in March.
