B-OHS Science Teacher Julie Tatro recognized for making science fun – all while also incorporating life lessons
Now polishing her “Golden Apple” education award from KEYC News 12 of North Mankato and Bethany Lutheran College of North Mankato is Butterfield-Odin Public High School (B-OHS) Science Instructor Julie Tatro. Tatro, who teaches science to students in grades 7-12, has taught in the school district for 12 years. Tatro is the first “Golden Apple” recipient for 2015.c
In the video segment, Tatro tells KEYC News 12, “It’s important for me to know that I’m giving them the best education I can here so that they’re the greatest success they can be. I feed off of their energy.”
Lamar Sengsouvanh, a senior at B-OHS, says, “She’s like a really good teacher. She’s like really strict on me learning, but like if I don’t know it she’s going to motivate me to do better and I think it’s like one of the best things she could do.” He adds, “I kind of want to do something within like science, but like biology and she helped me with that ’cause I grew up liking science so she kind of helped me with that.”
And her influence as a teach impacts more than just her students.
According to fellow teacher Dennis Stade, “Julie is one of the most inspirational teachers, coworkers and friends a paserson can have. Her classes are challenging and vigorous – yet she makes science fun while incorporating life lessons into her curriculum. She is the type of teacher I aspire to be.”
Tatro says, “Being a teacher has kind of meant everything to me. It’s how my day’s come to pass.”
The KEYC News 12 and Bethany Lutheran College “Golden Apple” education award recognizes the people and programs that make a dramatic difference in education.
