Wolverine boys, girls basketball teams to hold sixth-annual events
The sixth-annual participation of the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine girls and boys basketball teams with Coaches vs. Cancer events will be held Thursday, January 15 and Friday, January 16.
The program is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This now traditional winter sports season activity is held as part of a fund-raising effort in the fight to help eradicate cancer.
Here is the line-up of events for the two evenings:
Thursday, January 15 (Wolverine Boys take on Murray County Central)
* Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoon fundraising meal – 5:30 p.m. until gone. Sponsored by the Mountain Lake Wolverine Boosters.
* Silent Prize Raffle – Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) auditorium foyer; need not be present to win).
* Lighting Games at B-Squad Squad Half-Time – Elementary students at the north basket; High School students and Adults at the south basket.
* Prior to the Varsity Boys tip-off – Recognition of those in attendance affected by cancer.
* Entertainment at Varsity Game Half-Time – Courtesy of the Wolverine Varsity Basketball Girls.
Friday, January 16 (Wolverine Girls take on Edgerton Public)
* Chili and Soup fundraising meal – Serving from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the MLPS cafeteria. Free-will offering with proceeds going to “Stan The Man” Schroeder, a MLPS graduate, former athlete, community member – and cancer patient. Sponsored by the Mountain Lake Fire Department
* Silent Prize Raffle – Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) auditorium foyer; need not be present to win).
* Lighting Games at B-Squad Squad Half-Time – Elementary students at the north basket; High School students and Adults at the south basket.
* Prior to the Varsity Girls tip-off – Recognition of those in attendance affected by cancer.
* Entertainment at Varsity Game Half-Time – Courtesy of the Wolverine Varsity Basketball Boys.
One hundred percent of funds raised (aside from the Friday fundraising meal) will go to help support the Cottonwood County American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life – and the lifesaving programs that help people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back against cancer.
