On Monday, November 17, the Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) National Honor Society (NHS) held the annual dinner and induction ceremony at the Mountain Lake Community Center.

The ceremony was conducted by current NHS members, Olivia Hopwood, Eric-John Niss-de Jesus, Madelyn Regier, Jared Willaby and Jennifer Wright.

The NHS is composed of juniors and seniors who have proven themselves outstanding in scholarship, character, leadership and service.

The scholarship requirement is met by maintaining a “B” (3.20) average of above.

A student who shows positive leadership is one who takes a constructive lead in the classroom and in-school activities, who contributes constructive ideas for school improvement and who positively influences others for the good of the total school.

A student judged to have a strong character is one who meets responsibilities promptly, is tolerant of others, honest in dealings with others and upholds the principles of morality and ethics.

Service to the school and community-at-large, whether it be athletics, fine arts or other services, is the final area in which the potential NHS candidate is judged.

This year’s students selected to join the NHS are Benjamin Grev, son of David/Kendra Grev; Lydia Hildebrandt, daughter of Gary/Karen Hildebrandt; Levi Jahnke, son of Kurt/Heidi Jahnke; Ryan McCue, son of Mike McCue/Leslie Erickson; Caleb Rempel, son of Bryan/Carolyn Rempel; Brianna Soutthivong, daughter of Toun Soutthivong/Lori Braun; Signey Stoesz, daughter of Michael/Sonja Stoesz; Carmen Syverson, daughter of Steve/Kim Syverson; Akin Tema-Lopez, son of Telesforo/Adelina Tema-Lopez and Ashley Watkins, daughter of David and Tammy Watkins.

The NHS at MLHS was founded in 1946.
