Senior student signature series

* The 2014-2015 senior student signature series features area senior class students – and their own “signature” outlooks on a topic of their choice. A new outlook will be posted on Cross-Counties Connect each Friday. The series will begin with point of view comments by seniors from Mountain Lake Public High School. The opinions can be found by clicking on the Family & Faith link on the website’s header, and scrolling down to, and clicking on, Outlook. Their teachers are Brenda Feil and Kim Syverson.

We Should Not Start A Fight

I do not agree with starting a war against ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) because it might lead to a deadly cause. I think that the United States should be handling the whole ISIS situation differently by leaving it alone.

There is a lot to know about dealing with ISIS and what it could affect. Military actions are going to be dirty, messy and unpredictable.

If the United States uses mainly air force to deal with ISIS, what happens when a pilot is shot down and captured?

Where do we all the money from for the military equipment and sending troops?

I believe that the United States citizens will have to pay for it through taxes, and a lot of soldiers will be risking their lives to go to war when there is no need to.

Many people’s lives will be lost, starting with the soldiers’. Would we rather have our soldiers retire from the military or die? It is not worth risking millions of soldiers’ lives to fight another war.

As well, people who are not involved in any of this could lose their lives from terrorist attacks. What will we do if ISIS decides to attack the United States? There is nothing we civilians could do.

Why start another war? President Barack Obama defined himself as a president to end war, not start one. Nobody likes wars. What is our plan when the United States gets deep into a battle that may cause many problems?

Now, if ISIS does attack the United States, who will pay for all the damage?

The president should be keeping the United States war-free.

Some people think that President Obama should fight ISIS so we can stop these terrorists before their groups grow bigger, however, I think that we should not because that could just make them want to attack us more.

To conclude, this is how a deadly cause could occur from fighting ISIS. I also believe that if there is a deadly cause, no one will be prepared for the worst. From my thoughts, this situation could end up badly for everyone involved.

I hope that reading my editorial changes your thoughts about how President Obama is choosing to deal with the ISIS situation.
