Let’s get ready to roundabout

Education session on how to navigate the circle

Multi-lane roundabouts are planned for two Minnesota State Highway #22 intersections with Madison Avenue and again with Adams Street, in the retail area of Mankato, Minnesota. Construction is slated to begin on June 2, and run into September 2014.

Prior to the building of the roundabouts, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is reaching out to education the public, according to Trudy Richter. That public outreach includes a special event slated for Saturday, March 29, running from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the River Hills Mall in Mankato. The event will be interactive, featuring a huge roundabout rug which will give “drivers” the opportunity to walk the roundabout and practice the correct way to drive a multi-lane roundabout.

MnDOT staff will be on hand to answer people’s questions, as well.

When driving a roundabout, MnDOT instructs drivers to take it slow, pick their land, yield to the left or stop if necessary and while in the roundabout, do not stop, pass or change lanes.
