Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine boys basketball guard Andrew Hempeck is recognized as the new assist record holder for the school sports team following the Monday, January 13 game on the St. James hard court. Hempeck went into the game needing two to tie – and three to surpass – Mitchell Schroeder’s previous varsity record of 401 assists. Schroeder graduated from Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) in 2003, while Hempeck is currently a senior at MLHS and played an integral role in the back-to-back appearances of the Maroon-and-Silver in the Minnesota State Class A Boys Basketball Tournament in 2012 and 2013.

Hempeck passed the record early in the game and has the remainder of the season to expand on the new record he now holds

The Class A Wolverines suffered their first loss of the season to the Class AA Saints, losing 82-63.
