It is official.

The name on the sign will change – from PM Beef to Prime Pork. As well, the visage on the sign – of a beef cow – will also be switched, to that of a hog.

As of Tuesday, February 23, Minnesota businessman Glen Taylor, a native of Comfrey; Mapleton, farmer Jeff Ward and Greg Strobel of Pemberton-based Strobel Farms have purchased the assets of PM Beef, including the former PM Beef Plant in Windom. The purchase includes the former PM Beef plant in Windom.

These new owners will, they say, convert the plant into a remodeled state-of-the-art pork-processing operation. Production is expected to begin in late 2016. It is believed that, when fully operating, the plant will be processing 4,000 to 5,000 hogs a day, and will employ 300 to 400 personnel.

The trio of new owners now operate hog farms in southwestern and south-central Minnesota, exclusively raising Duroc pigs. Duroc pigs are considered the “Black Angus” of pork, and their meat is the favorite of consumersbecause of its consistent quality and flavor. One hundred percent of those farms output will be processed at the new facility.

The PM Beef Plant in Windom ceased its operations last September, and the time it closed, employed 260.ant
