Open House slated at St. James Community Center
An open house for the Highway 4 project through the City of St. James will be held on Wednesday, March 15, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the St. James Community Center, located at 505 1st Avenue South.
The multi-year project will resume as early as Monday, April 3, with the focus on reconstructing Highway 4 from 10th Avenue South to Weston Avenue in 2017. Through traffic will be detoured to Watonwan County Roads 57, 56 and 55.
Businesses and residents are encouraged to attend the open house to discuss any concerns and get their questions answered. Staff from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the City of St. James will be present, along with the contractor and consulting firm.
Shortly after construction begins, weekly construction meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. at the St. James Community Room.

Construction in 2018 will also include a detour as work proceeds from Weston Avenue to 11th Avenue North.
Construction completed in 2016 included 8th Avenue North and Weston Avenue.
S M Hentges & Sons, Inc. of Jordan was awarded the contract with a bid of $15,685,646.
The Highway 4 project, which extends from south of the Watonwan County Fairgrounds to 11th Avenue North, includes utility replacement throughout the project, upgrading sidewalk and pedestrian ramps for safe ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible accommodations, lighting,and intersection and access revisions.
