Funeral services for 88-year-old Robert “Bob” F. Sutherland Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, August 20, 2016, at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom, Minnesota. The funeral home is located at 2280 6th Avenue.
Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Windom. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #206 of Windom.
Visitation will be at the funeral home the day of the funeral service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Robert “Bob” F. Sutherland Sr. passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016.
Robert “Bob” F. Sutherland, Sr. was born on December 26, 1927, at home in rural Windom, the son of the late Ray Francis and Mabel H. (Scurr) Sutherland. He received his education from a rural Mountain Lake Country School.
His country called him to military service during the Korean War. He served in the United States Army beginning in 1950, until 1952, when he received an Honorable Discharge.
On November 19, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to Connie J. Coulson at the Methodist Church in Jeffers, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children, Robert, Sheli and Deb. He farmed in the Delton Township, Cottonwood County area for many years. raising crops and hogs from farrow-to-finish.
When he retired from farming in 1985, he moved to Rochester, Minnesota and worked in the maintenance department at Park Towers Apartments. In 1991, he moved back to Windom and retired.
Bob enjoyed time with his family and they went on many fishing trips up north together. He also enjoyed hunting (deer, goose and pheasant) with family and friends. Later in life, he enjoyed going to the Windom Senior Citizen Center and playing cards and pool with his friends.
In March 2015, Bob’s health was declining and he entered the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. He remained living there until he passed away.
Bob is survived by Connie Sutherland of Windom; three children, Robert F. (Kathy) Sutherland Jr. of Sauk Centre, Minnesota, Sheli (Eugene) Fast of Windom and Deb (Larry) Smith of Windom; 8 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Rodoni of Windom and Joyce (Ronald) Voshage of Odin, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Lorene Sutherland of Windom and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Sutherland; granddaughter, Brooke Sutherland and brother-in-law, David Rodoni.
