Mary A. JohnsonFuneral services for 99-year-old Mary A. Johnson of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, August 18, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. The church is located at 1418 2nd Avenue.

Interment will be in Mountain Lake City Cemetery, located on 10th Street North at Midway Road.

Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home-Mountain Lake Chapel, on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 420 10th Street North. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Mary A. (Hanze) Johnson was born on the family farm in Jackson County, Minnesota, on January 8, 1917, the daughter of Ferdinand and Lena Henze. She was baptized at the Kimball Lutheran Church by Pastor John Porisch on February 24, 1917, in Kimball Township of Jackson County, confirmed by Pastor J. C. A. Gehm, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Darfur, Minnesota on May 15, 1932 and attended school in District #27.

Mary married Harm Johnson on March 16, 1939 on her parents’ farm near Darfur. The couple resided outside of Delft, Minnesota, then moved to a farm place north of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, where they lived for nearly 30 years.

The couple was married for 58 years before Harm’s passing in 1997.

Mary enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, volunteering with her church in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and dancing with Harm at Fox Lake and other various locations. Mary also spent her time tending her beautiful garden, hosting family meals and Sunday visits, and loved spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was known for her cheerful smile and happy outlook, especially in her last years spent at the Good Samaritan Sogge Home in Windom.

Before Mary passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016, she was the last living sibling of the Henze family.

Mary is survived by her children, Ronald Johnson, Verona (Tom) White, Alfred (Cindy) Johnson, Carol Arndt and Leann (Geof) Johnson; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harm Johnson; daughter, Janice Ewing; parents; four brothers; three sisters; seven brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.
