Classes at MLC pick up next week for 2016-2017 school year

Back-to-School Night is Monday; K-12 start Wednesday, while preschool, grades one and two begin Thursday

Classes at Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) for the 2016-2017 school year will begin next week with the first day of school for students in grades K-12 on Wednesday, August 24, and the “opener” for preschool and grades one and two set for Thursday, August 25.

Prior to school kick-off, MLC will hold a Back-to-School Night on Monday, August 22, beginning at 7 p.m.

Faculty changes this year include the addition of Amanda Korns, with Holly Penner playing an expanded role:

+ Amanda Korns will be a full-time teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. Amanda will be teaching 5th- and 6th-grade math and science, along with 7th-grade math. She will also be in charge of the resource program. The resource program at MLC assists students who are either ahead or behind their peer groups by providing additional instruction designed to help them continue to excel or to catch up to their peer groups as needed.

Prior to joining MLC, she worked as a special education paraprofessional at Mountain Lake Public School and as a classroom teacher at Excell Academy in Brooklyn Park. Amanda has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from North Central University of Minneapolis, with a concentration in Literacy. She holds a Minnesota teacher’s license for K-6 General Education and 5-8 Communication Arts.

Amanda is married to Dave Korns, who is employed at Bargen, Inc.  They have an infant son, Roman.

+ Holly Penner will be expanding her role at MLC for next school year. Holly joined the staff during the second semester this past year to teach an Art class for several high school artists. This year, she will teach Art all year for grades K-8, as well as another semester class for high school students.

Holly and her husband, Tim, have four children all of whom attend MLC (or will when old enough).
