NEW MOUNTAIN LAKE Public High School (MLHS) 7-12 Principal Michelle Larson is in the building.

 

 

 

Michelle E. Larson, 49, a native of Corsica, South Dakota, is the Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) Principal. Larson comes to the Mountain Lake Public School District from the Marion Public School District in Marion, South Dakota, at which she served as K-12 Principal for the past three years (2013-2016) While in her position in Marion, she was 6-12 Principal for two years and PK-12 Principal for one year.

Larson received her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Augustana College (now Augustana University) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in May 1988; her Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University-Mankato (MSU) in May 2011 and her Specialist in Educational Leadership from MSU in July 2012. She holds a Minnesota Teachers License for 7-12 Mathematics and Coaching, her Minnesota K-12 Principal Licensure and South Dakota PK-12 Principal Licensure. Her first teaching job after her graduation from Augustana was at Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, South Dakota. Also in her career, she ha taught mathematics at Martin Luther High School in Northrop, as well as at Granada-Huntley-East Chain.

She and her husband, Doug, have five sons and one daughter-in-law. Jordan Larson and Caleb Larson both attend the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis, while another son, Isaac Larson, is a student at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. A fourth son and his wife, Jacob and Sarah Larson, are employed by the University of Northwestern in St. Paul. The couple’s youngest son, David Larson, will be a sophomore at MLHS.

While her “official” start date is Monday, August 1, Larson has already spent numerous days at work in her high school office.
